Antalya Travel Guide — Beaches, Old Town, Waterfalls & Hidden Gems (2026)
Antalya is Turkey’s crown jewel on the Mediterranean coast — a vibrant city where ancient ruins meet turquoise waters and dramatic waterfalls cascade into the sea. With over 300 days of sunshine, incredible beaches, and a beautifully preserved old town, Antalya deserves a prominent place on every Turkey itinerary.
Getting to Antalya
Antalya Airport (AYT) is Turkey’s second-busiest, with direct flights from across Europe and the Middle East. From Istanbul, flights take just 1 hour 15 minutes. Budget airlines like Pegasus offer fares from $30 one-way. For transport tips, see our Turkey transport guide.
Kaleiçi — Antalya’s Enchanting Old Town
The historic heart of Antalya, Kaleiçi (meaning “inside the castle”), is a maze of narrow Ottoman-era streets filled with boutique hotels, charming restaurants, and ancient landmarks. Walk through Hadrian’s Gate (built 130 AD), explore the Yivli Minaret, and watch the sunset from the ancient harbor.
Best Beaches in Antalya
Antalya’s coastline offers beaches for every taste. Konyaaltı Beach stretches along the western edge of the city with mountain backdrops. Lara Beach on the east side features golden sand and resort hotels. For something special, the ancient beach at Phaselis combines ruins with swimming in crystal waters.

Düden and Kurşunlu Waterfalls
The Düden Waterfalls are Antalya’s most dramatic natural attraction. The Lower Düden falls cascade directly off sea cliffs into the Mediterranean — best viewed from a boat tour. The Upper Düden falls, set in a lush park, are perfect for picnics. Kurşunlu Waterfall, 20km from the center, is a hidden paradise surrounded by pine forests.
Day Trips from Antalya
Antalya is an excellent base for exploring the region. Visit the ancient cities of Perge, Aspendos (with its perfectly preserved Roman theater), and Termessos (the “eagle’s nest” city high in the mountains). The stunning Saklıkent Gorge and ancient Myra with its Lycian rock tombs are also within easy reach.
Where to Stay in Antalya
For atmosphere, stay in a converted Ottoman house in Kaleiçi. For beach resorts, the Lara Beach area has options from budget to ultra-luxury. Konyaaltı is great for a more local, less touristy experience. Budget travelers will find excellent hostels and pensions throughout the old town.

Best Time to Visit Antalya
April-June and September-October offer the best combination of warm weather and fewer crowds. Summer (July-August) brings temperatures above 35°C but is perfect for beach lovers. Winter is mild (15-17°C) and ideal for exploring ruins without the heat.
