Turkey Visa Requirements 2026 — E-Visa, Free Entry & How to Apply

Planning a trip to Turkey? Understanding the visa requirements is your first step. The great news is that Turkey has made entry incredibly easy with its online e-Visa system. Most travelers can get their visa approved in minutes. Here’s everything you need to know for 2026.

Who Needs a Visa for Turkey?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Citizens of many countries can enter Turkey visa-free for 90 days, while others need an e-Visa. A few nationalities require a traditional embassy visa.

Visa-Free Entry (90 Days)

Citizens of the following regions generally enjoy visa-free entry: EU/EEA countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, etc.), South Korea, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, and several others. You can stay up to 90 days within a 180-day period with just your passport.

E-Visa Countries

US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, China and many other nationalities need an e-Visa. The process is entirely online and takes just 5-10 minutes.

How to Apply for a Turkey E-Visa

Visit the official website evisa.gov.tr (not .com — beware of unofficial sites that charge extra fees). Fill in your personal details and travel dates. Pay the fee online (typically $50-60 for US/UK citizens). Receive your e-Visa via email instantly. Print it or save it on your phone.

Passport Requirements

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned stay in Turkey. It must have at least one empty page for the entry stamp. Damaged passports may be refused at border control.

How Long Can You Stay?

Tourist visas (both visa-free and e-Visa) allow stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. If you plan to stay longer, you’ll need to apply for a residence permit at the nearest İl Göç İdaresi (Immigration Office) within 30 days of arrival.

Arrival and Immigration

Immigration at Istanbul Airport is typically quick — 10-20 minutes on average. Have your passport, e-Visa (if required), and return flight information ready. You may be asked about your hotel reservation.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Don’t use unofficial e-Visa websites (they charge double). Don’t arrive with an expired passport. Don’t overstay your 90-day limit (fines and potential entry bans apply). Don’t assume your visa from a previous trip is still valid.
