Konya — city of Rumi
Konya is the spiritual home of the Whirling Dervishes and Jalaluddin Rumi's tomb (Mevlana Museum). Seljuk architecture at Ince Minare and Alaeddin Mosque predates Ottoman Istanbul. Evening sema ceremonies (when scheduled) deepen the cultural experience beyond museum displays.
Linking Cappadocia and Konya
Konya sits between Cappadocia and the Mediterranean — a natural stop on overland routes. High-speed trains connect Konya to Istanbul. Most travelers spend one to two nights for Mevlana sites and Seljuk mosques.
Conservative city etiquette
Konya is more conservative than Istanbul — modest dress is appreciated everywhere, required in mosques. Alcohol is limited compared to coastal resorts. Our guides explain local customs so visitors feel welcome.
Best time to visit
Spring and autumn are comfortable for walking. December hosts Şeb-i Arus commemorations with increased visitor numbers — book hotels early if attending.
