Best Time to Visit Turkey
Spring (April–June)
Mild temperatures, blooming landscapes, and lower crowds make spring the top choice for cultural routes. Balloon cancellation rates drop below 10% in April and May.
Summer (July–August)
Hot inland but perfect for Antalya and Bodrum beaches. Book Cappadocia balloon and cave hotels well ahead — peak demand.
Autumn (September–November)
Golden light, warm seas into October, and thinning crowds. September is often the single best month for a combined Istanbul–Cappadocia trip.
Cappadocia balloon season calendar
Balloon flights operate year-round but cancellation rates peak in winter storms and summer heat haze. April–May and September–October offer the best combination of clear skies and comfortable basket temperatures. Book refundable slots early in peak months.
Mediterranean coast vs inland
Antalya and Bodrum shine June–September when inland sites are hottest. Ephesus and Pamukkale are more comfortable in shoulder months. Combine coast and culture by touring inland in spring and finishing on the beach in early autumn.
Ramadan and public holidays
Ramadan shifts yearly — restaurants in tourist areas stay open but rural towns may quieten at sunset. National holidays (April 23, May 19, August 30) add domestic travel demand on roads and domestic flights. Book early for Kurban Bayrami week.

January–March: cold in Istanbul, snow possible in Cappadocia, quiet sites. April–May: ideal sightseeing, green landscapes, high balloon success. June–August: hot inland, peak coast season. September–October: golden light, warm seas, best overall month often September. November–December: budget travel, fewer tourists, some rain.
Regional climate differences
Istanbul is milder than Ankara. Cappadocia has bigger day-night swings. Mediterranean coast stays warm into October. Southeast (Mardin) is hot in summer — spring and autumn preferred.
Crowds and prices by season
July–August and Easter weeks are busiest. Shoulder months (May, June, September) balance weather and value. Winter hotel rates in Istanbul can be 30–40% lower except New Year.
