Turkey Airport Transfer Guide — Getting from the Airport to Your Hotel
Getting from the airport to your hotel is one of the first challenges of any Turkey trip. With multiple airports across the country and various transfer options available, knowing your choices in advance saves time, money, and stress. This guide covers airport transfers at Turkey’s major airports for 2026 travellers.
Istanbul Airport (IST)
Istanbul Airport is Turkey’s largest and busiest international gateway, located approximately 35 kilometres north of the city centre. Getting to Sultanahmet or Taksim takes 45–90 minutes depending on traffic. Private Transfer: The most comfortable option, especially after a long flight. A driver meets you at arrivals with a name sign and takes you directly to your hotel. Prices range from $30–50 for a sedan. Havaist Bus: Official airport shuttle buses run to key destinations including Taksim, Sultanahmet, and Kadıköy. Tickets cost approximately 150–200 TL and the journey takes 60–90 minutes. Metro: The M11 metro line connects the airport to Gayrettepe station, where you can transfer to the M2 line for Taksim. The journey takes about 50 minutes and costs only a few lira. Taxi: Licensed yellow taxis use metres. A ride to Sultanahmet costs approximately 500–700 TL depending on traffic. Always use official taxi ranks.
Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW)
Located on the Asian side of Istanbul, Sabiha Gökçen primarily serves budget airlines and domestic flights. It is further from the main tourist areas in Sultanahmet and Beyoğlu. Private Transfer: The best option for reaching the European side, costing $40–60. Journey time is 60–120 minutes depending on traffic and whether you cross the Bosphorus Bridge or use the Marmaray tunnel. Havabus: Shuttle buses run to Taksim Square, Kadıköy, and Pendik. Tickets cost approximately 150 TL. Public Transport: Bus E-10 connects to Kadıköy, from where you can take the ferry or Marmaray train to the European side.
Cappadocia — Kayseri (ASR) and Nevşehir (NAV) Airports
Two airports serve Cappadocia. Kayseri Airport (ASR) is about 70 kilometres from Göreme, while Nevşehir Airport (NAV) is only 30 kilometres away but has fewer flights. Most hotels and tour operators arrange airport shuttle transfers for $10–20 per person. Private transfers cost $40–60 and are worth it if you are arriving late or with a group. There is no public transport from either airport to the Cappadocia hotel zone, so pre-booking a transfer is essential.
Antalya Airport (AYT)
Antalya Airport is well-connected and serves the entire Turkish Riviera coastline. To Antalya city centre (15 km): The Antray tram runs from the domestic terminal to the city centre in about 30 minutes for a few lira. Taxis cost approximately 200–300 TL. To Kemer, Belek, Side, or Alanya: These resort towns are 40–130 kilometres from the airport. Shared shuttle services (Havaş) run to major resort areas. Private transfers are highly recommended for families or groups, costing $30–80 depending on distance.
Bodrum — Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV)
Milas-Bodrum Airport is located 36 kilometres from Bodrum town centre. Havaş Shuttle: Regular buses run to Bodrum bus station, taking about 45 minutes and costing around 100 TL. Private Transfer: A comfortable option at $30–40 for the direct drive to your hotel. Taxi: Costs approximately 400–500 TL to Bodrum centre. For other Bodrum peninsula destinations like Türkbükü, Yalıkavak, or Bitez, a private transfer is the most efficient choice.
İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB)
The gateway to Ephesus, Pamukkale, and the Aegean coast. İZBAN Train: Suburban trains connect the airport to İzmir city centre in about 25 minutes — the cheapest and fastest option. To Selçuk/Ephesus (80 km): Take the İZBAN to Tepeköy station then transfer to a regional train to Selçuk. Or book a private transfer for $50–70. To Pamukkale (250 km): No direct public transport. Book a private transfer or take a bus from İzmir bus station (Otogar) — the journey takes about 3.5 hours.
Tips for Airport Transfers in Turkey
Always pre-book your transfer for late-night arrivals when public transport may not be running. Download the BiTaksi or Uber app for taxis in major cities — they show estimated fares and prevent overcharging. Have your hotel address written in Turkish to show drivers. Turkish airports have ATMs and currency exchange in the arrivals hall, so you can get local currency before your transfer. If travelling with children, a car seat may need to be requested in advance for private transfers.
